Military Jacket

The jacket I told you about in my last post is now finished and here it is.  I’m really proud of it and I’m glad to say the guy who ordered it is delighted.  I wasn’t sure about the blue frogging on the black background, but it works perfectly.

You can see it’s based on a hussars’ jacket but much longer in the body.  I had intended to only have 16 frogs on the front but it looked better with 18 to balance up the length.
I embroidered a design on each sleeve using my Brother Galaxie sewing machine and gold filament thread.  Adds a great touch, I think. Red collar and cuff facings trimmed with gold lace finish it off.

Let me know what you think.  And if you’d like one, drop me a line and I’ll give you the price!

New Projects underway

Now that Christmas and the new year is over I can get down to some work again.  The bedroom I use has been restored to its status as workroom and things have found their rightful places again having been tidied away to allow visitors to stay.

An item I get asked to make quite often is Officer’s redcoat, either tail coat, or the shorter tailed 1812 pattern.  A variation on this recently was a young man, not a re-enactor, who wanted a retro 1960′s Carnaby Street military influenced jacket.  This has been great fun to put together, deciding which bits of a “real” jacket he wanted, and making up the toile.  He’s had a couple of fittings now and I’m now putting on the froggings on the fronts.

When I get the whole thing finished, I’ll upload a photo.  He’s delighted with it, I’m glad to say.

I’ll be in touch again soon.

My Sewing World

Hello there

Welcome to my new blog.  I thought it was time I set up a blog to tell you about my sewing activities and the projects I get involved with in re-enactment costumes.  I’ll be putting up regular posts about what I’m making, how it’s going and the people I’m making them for.  I’ll put up some photos of the finished item and sometimes photos of the work in progress.

I hope you enjoy it.  If there’s some aspect of my work you’d like to know more about, then please let me know by leaving a comment and I’ll see what we can do.  If you’d like to take a look at my main website, then click here

All for now.  I’ve got to finish a soldier’s jacket now so he can wear it to our Christmas party this evening!  Only just received the buttons to be able to finish it.  Talk about leave things to the last minute.

I’ll talk to you again soon.
